POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Parent Consultant is responsible for providing information, referral, technical assistance and advocacy to parents of children with special needs. The Parent Consultant conducts parent and professional trainings on Oahu and Neighbor Islands on special education roles, rights and responsibilities, IEP development, disabilities awareness and other related topics. Evening and weekend work will be required.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
A Parent Consultant will possess good people skills, ability to learn detailed curricula, conduct research and have public speaking abilities.  This person will be able to work independently and as part of the team, is adaptable to change, demonstrates initiative, and is ready for a challenging and rewarding experience.

Preferably, a Parent Consultant will have personal experience and knowledge of Hawaii’s special education system, and related Federal and State laws, and experience conducting presentations and trainings in the community. A degree in special education, human services, or a related field is highly desired.

The best candidates for this position are parents of children with disabilities.
