RE:                Future of the Annual Learning Disabilities, ADHD, and Teen Conference

DATE:          December 2004

Beginning in 1994, our two organizations planned and worked with associate sponsors to hold an annual

conference to focus on the needs of students, young adults, and those with learning disabilities and dyslexia.

Over the past eleven years some of the country's top researcher, educators, and physicians have visited Hawaii

to share their knowledge, information, and strategies with us.  In addition, our conference featured a wealth

of talent and expertise from local speakers and presenters.  We are pleased proud of the conference and of

your continued support and interest.

This Memo will apprise you of the status of that annual conference.  Following the 2004 conference, the Board

of Directors of HIDA voted to refocus it programming and financial capacity more directly to individuals with

dyslexia within a smaller venue for the coming year (2005).

HIDA and LDAH met to discuss the likely outcomes of this decision.  While the two organizations will continue

to share information about upcoming events, workshops and trainings, the annual co-sponsored learning

disabilities conference will not be held in 2005.  Individually soponsored events already scheduled or in the

planning phase include the following:

Because you have been a supporter of our co-sponsored conference, we want to encourage your continued support

of individually organized events.  Our two organizations remain committed to the mission of sharing up-to-date,

relevant, best-practice information regarding dyslexia and other learning disabilities.  We look forward to fulfilling

this mission in many different ways.
