Providing funding to address the
needs of children throughout Hawai`i with serious medical
conditions or special educational needs. Supported by a Grant from
the Hawai`i Community
Foundation & the Kitaro Watanabe Fund.
What is the PIN Program?
The Persons in Need (PIN) Program makes awards to
benefit individuals who meet
specific eligibility criteria. The PIN Program began in 1988 at the Hawai`i Community
Foundation (HCF).
PIN Program Goal:
To improve
the quality of life
for
individual Hawai`i residents.
How is the PIN Program Funded?
The PIN
Program at the HCF is a collection of funds from private foundations and HCF
funds. The funds may be targeted to address a particular need or a particular
geographic area, e.g. children currently in foster care, children needing speech
therapy or
individuals aged 50
years or older.
Contact HCF Kauai office at 245-4585
(toll-free at 1-888-245-4585) or
www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org for a complete list of PIN Program funds and
participating agencies.
How Are Funds Distributed?
-
First, HCF receives
charitable contributions from various donors who intend to help the people of
Hawai`i.
-
Second, based on the
donor's wishes, HCF distributes these funds to community agencies
with specific criteria. The Learning Disabilities Association of Hawai`i (LDAH) received a grant from HCF's Kitaro
Watanabe Fund.
-
Third, based on their
procedures and priorities, community agencies process applications and
determine whether an award is appropriate.
