Supporting children in gaining the skills to be successful in their education.
The School Readiness Project (SRP) provides services for families of preschool aged children throughout O'ahu, Moloka'i, and Hawai'i Island. We provide developmental, social-emotional, hearing, vision, and autism screenings. SRP works to strengthen families through case management and parent education. Let us be part of your family's medical home and support pediatricians to better meet the needs of your child.
SRP is a collaborative project with: Aloha United Way, The Community Learning Center at Ma'ili, Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Kukui Center, and Kamehameha Schools.
We use the Plusoptix Digital Vision Screener to check your child's eyes. It is an accurate, non-invasive way to detect a variety of vision disorders in children. It takes moments for the device to screen your child's eyes and produce immediate results for your review.
Two methods can be used to check your child's hearing. The first is called Otoacoustic Emissions — this method checks both the middle ear and inner ear and will quickly tell you if your child is hearing normally. The second is called Tympanometry — this method checks for reduced eardrum movement caused by fluid, wax, or other problems.
Our qualified personnel use the Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3) and ASQ-SE (Social-Emotional) screening tools. When developmental concerns are detected, children will be screened for autism using the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT).
Case Management is provided for families of children identified with a specific need through the screening process. Our staff will support you by explaining results, offering next-step solutions, connecting you with community resources, and following up on referrals made to other systems of care.
Trainings are designed to increase understanding of health, developmental, and school readiness needs of preschool aged children. Participants will learn what development should look like, discuss milestones, and review possible signs of developmental delays along with solutions.
If you are a provider of services for children and would like to add our screening services to your program or event, we can help! We offer vision, hearing, and developmental screenings, staff and family trainings, outreach events, and resources.
